What to Expect at Bansko Nomad Fest 2025, from who went twice
Bansko Nomad Fest 2025 is a week-long celebration of the digital nomad lifestyle set in the picturesque mountain town of Bansko, Bulgaria. Every summer, hundreds of remote workers, entrepreneurs, and freelancers converge here to connect, learn, and play. In 2024 the fest drew more than 700 nomads, making it the largest nomad festival in the world – and 2025 promises to be even bigger, aiming for nearly 1000 participants. This year it will happen from June 22nd to 29th.
It’s clearly not a business-card kind of conference: it’s an experience for freedom-seeking, community-first, and adventure-prone kind of people. From inspiring talks to outdoor excursions and mindful wellness sessions, Bansko Nomad Fest offers something for every kind of nomad.
We personally attended the event for the last two years, so we gathered all our notes and experiences to put together this comprehensive guide. Bansko Nomad Fest is a very rich experience and it's not a secret that it can be overwhelming for first-timers. We promise that you will feel on top of everything and ready to have exciting times this week!

Getting to Bansko, Bulgaria ✈️🇧🇬🚍
Getting to Bansko is easier than you might think, even if it feels like an offbeat destination. The journey often starts with flying into Sofia, Bulgaria’s capital. Sofia Airport (SOF) is well-connected to major European cities – for example, direct flights from London take just about 3 hours. From Sofia, Bansko is roughly 160 km south (about a 2 to 3-hour trip by road). Most nomads fly to Sofia then take a bus or taxi van to Bansko.
There are comfortable coach buses multiple times a day from Sofia’s bus stations, costing only around €8-€15. If you prefer more freedom, you can rent a car and drive the scenic route through mountains (the roads are decent and the views are great). Many attendees also coordinate in advance in the event chat on Telegram to share rides or group shuttles – by the time you land in Sofia, you might already have new friends to carpool with!
Once on the road, expect a beautiful drive past rural villages and rising peaks. Bansko itself is tucked at the foot of the Pirin Mountains at ~925m elevation. Pro tip: If you’re coming from elsewhere in the Balkans, you could also drive from Greece (Thessaloniki) or take a train to Blagoevgrad and bus/taxi from there. But Sofia remains the most straightforward gateway. However you arrive, the moment you see Bansko’s red roofs and alpine backdrop, you’ll feel the excitement set in – you’re almost “home” for the next week!
Where to Stay in Bansko 🏠
One of the charms of Bansko Nomad Fest is that the town is small and walkable: you’ll bump into fellow nomads in cafes, on the streets, everywhere. The main square and Old Town area is the heart of the action, with three main venues all close to each other: the Main Stage (Nikola Vaptsarov Community Center), Cinema Stage (Bansko Visitor Information Centre), and The Park (City Park).
Staying close to the square means you’re never more than a few minutes from a talk, workshop, or impromptu meetup. Plus, you could go back home for just a 30 minutes break and "me-time" in between the small gaps in the program.
Fortunately, Bansko has ample accommodation options for every budget, from cozy guesthouses to modern hotels and coliving spaces. Why so in a small town? Because it's a popular winter ski destination, so during summer it never gets as full as during the peak winter season.

One of the highlights of our week in Bansko
Of course, that’s not all. Bansko’s got hundreds of activities on tap, many included as free or low-cost options during Nomad Fest. You could find yourself white-water rafting on a roaring river, horseback riding through rural villages, or rock climbing on local.
Basically it's an all-terrain playground for grown ups!
More mellow options include guided hikes to crystal-clear mountain lakes, archery sessions, or even volunteering to walk shelter dogs in the countryside. The list is almost endless: as one nomad noted, in Bansko you can do everything from mountain biking and quads to paragliding and even “all-natural river ice bath” sessions in the streams. Yes, you read that right – some brave souls take a forest cold plunge in icy mountain water for the ultimate refresh! If you’ve ever dabbled in Wim Hof-style cold therapy, Bansko’s rivers provide the perfect setting. ❄️🌲
Quick recap: Expect your afternoons to be filled with adventure. Whether you’re an adrenaline junkie or just game to try something new, you’ll make epic memories. Few conferences offer the chance to discuss remote work strategies in the morning and then be zooming on an ATV or splashing in a river by afternoon! It’s the work-hard-play-hard nomad ethos at its best

Great Restaurants in Bansko for Nomads 🍲
If you ask some travelers, Bulgaria will not be the first place that comes to mind for "country with best food", but Bansko seems to ignore this fact: we always had delicious food during the Nomad Fest, as Bansko’s food scene punches above its weight.
Despite being a small town, Bansko offers a delightful mix of traditional Bulgarian eateries and international fare, much of it shaped by the nomad and expat community that lives here. Nomads often gather in the evenings to break bread together, sharing stories over local wine or craft beer. Here are some great restaurants in Bansko that we tried ourselves (and nomads absolutely love), each with a unique vibe and delicious food:
-
1. Momnini Dwori – Restaurant. Momnini Dwori – Restaurant** To experience Bulgarian cuisine and hospitality, this is a must-visit. The atmosphere is cozy and authentic – think wooden beams, a crackling fireplace in winter, and a flower-laden garden in summer. The menu is full of local classics: hearty banitsa pastries, shopska salad with tomatoes and feta, grilled meats, and warming stews in hot pots. Don’t miss the lyutenitsa – a homemade roasted pepper and tomato spread that they serve with bread – it’s a local specialty and highly recommended. Cherry on top? It's basically in the main square so it's perfect for the lunch break.
-
Momnini is full? Check Chevermeto (Механа “Чевермето”. Great for groups to share big plates all together.
-
**2. Five M (Fusion Food a short hike can double as meditation.
Popular easy trails lead to places like the Holy Trinity Church forest path or along the river by the old town. It’s a beautiful way to start your day before diving into festival activities, or to unwind at sunset with birds chirping around you. 🌲💦
- 3. Yoga, Meditation & Wellness Workshops: At Bansko Nomad Fest, wellness is also built into the program. Each morning typically begins with optional wellness sessions: outdoor yoga in the park, guided meditation, or breathwork classes led by fellow nomads. There’s nothing quite like doing sun salutations in the crisp morning air with greenery all around and a group of like-minded people stretching beside you. These sessions are great for grounding yourself and shaking off any grogginess from the late-night parties. In 2023, participants enjoyed yoga classes under the trees in the town park (the same park hosts some unconference talks later in the day) – a serene start focusing on balance and mindfulness, which carries a positive tone into the rest of your day. 🧘♀️
In addition to yoga, keep an eye out for special wellness workshops: past fests have featured things like laughter therapy sessions, nutrition talks, and even a sound healing evening with crystal bowls. And if you need some me-time, consider visiting one of the local spa centers in town. Bansko has a few hotels with spa facilities (steam bath, sauna, massage) open to visitors for a fee. For example, the Gardenia Hotel’s spa or Kempinski Hotel’s world-class spa (if you’re near the gondola area) are great places to pamper yourself.
Balance is key: Bansko Nomad Fest encourages you not just to network and learn, but also to take care of your well-being. By the end of the week, many attendees report feeling healthier and more energized than when they arrived – it’s the combination of mountain energy, physical activity, and mindful relaxation.
In short, expect to rejuvenate both body and mind. Whether you’re soaking in mineral waters, plunging into a cool river, or simply sipping herbal tea on a terrace with a mountain view, Bansko provides the ideal natural backdrop for wellness. It’s a reminder that the nomad life is, yes, some hustle, but it’s about creating a lifestyle that nourishes you. And at Bansko Nomad Fest, you’ll have plenty of chances to do exactly that.
Is Bansko Nomad Fest Worth It? 🤔
After hearing about all these experiences, you might be wondering: “Is Bansko Nomad Fest worth it?” The answer from those who’ve been is a resounding YES! 🙌 In an attendee survey and countless personal blogs, nomads rave about the fest’s unique blend of professional value and personal joy. Here’s why it’s worth every bit:
-
Community & Connection: Nowhere else will you find such a concentration of like-minded people who instantly “get” you. Imagine a community spirit where making friends is effortless – over 700 nomads attended in 2023, many returning every year. By day two, you’ll have a circle of friends to lunch with, adventure with, and collaborate with. The serendipitous encounters (chatting with a founder of a startup in the coffee line, or brainstorming with a travel blogger on a hike) are invaluable. Attendees describe the vibe as open, friendly, and inspiring. If you’ve been craving a sense of belonging in the nomad world, you’ll find it here in spades.
-
Knowledge & Inspiration: The fest features 50+ talks and workshops by expert speakers and fellow nomads on everything from scaling an online business to mindful travel. You’ll learn practical strategies for remote work success and hear authentic stories of others’ journeys.
But beyond scheduled content, the informal knowledge sharing is where the magic often happens – late-night discussions about life around a firepit, skill-sharing sessions during coworking hours, and the community-organized un-conferences: these are as central as the morning conference talks, and it's where the discussion moves to an eye-level exchange between a very interesting bunch of people. Never underestimate the inspiration and life stories you can get among nomads!
Many attendees leave with fresh business ideas, solutions to nomad life challenges, or even new career opportunities. It’s essentially a one-week infusion of wisdom and motivation that can truly be life changing. Not to mention, if you’re new to nomading, this event can be the launchpad that gives you confidence to pursue this path (yes, aspiring nomads are absolutely welcome to Bansko Nomad Fest and are an integral part of it!).
-
Adventure & Fun: Let’s face it, one reason you became a digital nomad was probably to live life fully. Bansko Nomad Fest delivers that in abundance. By the end of the week, your camera roll will be full of epic memories: you conquering a mountain trail, dancing your heart out at the closing party, clinking glasses at a rooftop meetup, and maybe wearing a goofy costume at one of the theme nights (did we mention there are theme parties? There are!). The festival is carefully organized to include social events every evening – from a traditional Bulgarian dance night in the square to a high-energy nightclub party – so the fun never stops. And because Bansko is super affordable (a beer is ~$2 and a nice meal under $10), you can enjoy everything without worrying about overspending. Past attendees often say they had the time of their lives and created deep friendships through these shared fun moments.
-
Affordability & Accessibility: Speaking of cost, compared to other conferences or retreats, Bansko Nomad Fest is very reasonably priced. The ticket price (usually a few hundred Euros for the week) gives you access to most talks, events, and a selection of free activities – a huge value for the money. Accommodation in Bansko is cheap (as you saw, even hotels are €20-40/night range), and food is inexpensive yet high quality. This means attending the fest won’t break the bank, even for budget-conscious travelers. Also, Bulgaria is easy to visit visa-wise (EU citizens have free movement, and many others get 90 days visa-free). Simply put, it’s worth it because you get a rich experience without a hefty price tag.
Now, let’s be real for a moment: no event is 100% perfect. Some attendees in the past have given feedback on logistical hiccups – e.g. the occasional schedule change, or a shuttle bus that was a tad overcrowded. But the organizers listen and improve every year. Any minor inconveniences fade in comparison to the overwhelmingly positive experience. The overall sentiment is that the fest’s atmosphere, the vibrant community, and the memories forged far outweigh any small issues.
By the end of the week, as you watch the final slideshow of photos at the closing ceremony (yes, you’ll probably tear up a bit reminiscing everything you did), you’ll likely be thinking “I can’t believe how much was packed into one week – and I can’t wait to come back!”. Many nomads decide on the spot to return the next year, or even linger in Bansko longer because they’ve fallen in love with the town and people. In fact, many nomads now have been Bansko's residents for many years!
In a nutshell: Bansko Nomad Fest is absolutely worth it for anyone seeking connection, growth, and out-of-the-ordinary experiences. It’s the kind of event where you arrive not knowing a soul and leave with a global family. It reminds us why you chose the unconventional, beautiful path of the digital nomad. So, if you’re on the fence about coming, take this as your sign. Pack your bags, book that ticket, and get ready for a week like truly no other.
